PTV - Iran has rejected a request from Tehran's popular soccer team Persepolis to hold a training camp and play some friendlies in the US.

The request was denied in a meeting between Iranian Foreign Ministry officials and the Persepolis managing director, Abbas Ansarifard, on Tuesday.

"We failed to obtain permission to travel to the US in the first meeting but the final decision will be made in the second meeting to be held in three days," Fars news quoted Ansarifard as saying.

"We abide by the laws and regulations of our country and want to ensure that such a trip is not open to abuse of any kind," he added.

The Reds, under Portuguese coach Nelo Vingada, wish to hold a training camp in the US, after the Asian Champions League qualifiers are over.

Last Wednesday, Persepolis sealed an easy 3-1 victory over Qatar's al-Gharafa in a leap toward the second round of the AFC Champions League.

The win lifted Persepolis to the second place of Group B tallying seven points out of three matches. Saudi Arabia's al-Shabab leads the chart with the same points score. Al Gharafa sits third on three points while UAE's Sharjah is at the bottom of the standings on zero.
