Daniel Davari

Persianfootball.com - DORTMUND, Iranian goalkeeper Daniel Davari surprisingly returned to Eintracht Braunschweig’s starting lineup and showed a pleasing performance in the 1-2 loss at Dortmund in round 2 of German Bundesliga on Sunday.

Davari and veteran Petkovic had been in a fierce battle for the goalkeeping position at the newly promoted club since the end of last season and it looked like Petkovic finally had the upper hand when he started both in the German Cup as well as in round 1 of the Bundesliga.

Despite two losses, Petkovic had been without any major mistake, so barely anyone expected 25-year-old Davari to get any playing time this season.

But coach Lieberknecht had hinted before that he would be open to a more flexible solution in goal and seemingly will constantly switch between Davari and Petkovic.

Davari and Braunschweig had a very tough task against the German giants and unsurprisingly relied on a tight defense.

The concept worked very well and Davari didn’t have much to do in his Bundesliga debut in first half before Dortmund finally started to create more danger after the break, with Davari keeping the game deadlocked with a couple of brilliant saves against Aubameyang, Lewandowski & Co.

However, with just 15 minutes on the clock substitute midfielder Jonas Hofmann brought the hosts in front from tight angle after he was put one on one with Davari and was lucky when the ball slipped through the advancing keepers legs before finding the way into the net via the goalpost.

Dortmund seemed to have sealed victory short time later when Marco Reus converted a penalty kick, sending Davari in the wrong direction.

But a late own goal by Lewandowski brought the visitors back into the game, who didn’t manage to score a late equalizer though.
