 The home side dominated the opening exchanges at of the AFC Champions League meeting at King Fahd International Stadium but failed to create a clear opportunity. They could have easily been behind as Piroozi captain Karim Bagheri and the influential Al Karimi wasted clear-cut chances for the visitors. But Al Shabab’s best chance of the game came five minutes after half-time as Saleh Sadeeq headed over from close range after being picked out by Nassir Al Shamrani’s pin-point cross. Sadeeq, though, did need a last ditch tackle to deny Karimi with 16 minutes remaining as both sides were forced to settle for a point and a share of the group lead. “It was a tough game. We dominated most of the match. Piroozi played well and deserve the credit,” said Torres. “We came into the match looking for the win as it was a home game and we created many chances but we failed to find the net and I hope we can record better results in the future.” Despite having the best of the opportunities, Piroozi coach Nelo Vingada was pleased with the point which leaves the two opening day winners in pole position a point clear of Qatar’s Al Gharafa who beat Sharjah 2-0. “It was a tough match but I believe the draw was a fair result,” he said. “We did, though, need some fantastic performances to stop Al Shabab. “Al Shabab have a lot of good players and every coach would like to work with them.” After back-to-back opening games, the Champions League takes a break until the second week of April when Piroozi entertain Al Gharafa and Al Shabab travel to Sharjah. “Now, our next game against Al Gharafa will be difficult. We will be looking to maintain our position and I would hope to see both Piroozi and Al Shabab in the next round," added Vingada. “Piroozi and Al Shabab have now collected four points, the other team has also won and I think the group has just begun.” |
