Queiroz - Ronaldo

Eurosport - Former Portugal boss Carlos Queiroz has hit back at Cristiano Ronaldo, who blamed him for the country’s 2010 World Cup loss to Spain.

Queiroz, who has had a strained relationship with the Real Madrid man ever since the 1-0 defeat in Cape Town, is currently in charge of Iran and was asked about Ronaldo’s chances of landing the Ballon d’Or following his hat-trick in the midweek World Cup play-off victory over Sweden.

“Congratulations Cristiano. If he’d played like that, assuming his responsibility, then we would have beaten Spain,” AS quotes him as saying.

In the clash with Spain, Ronaldo was caught on camera telling the former Real Madrid Coach “Carlos, we won’t win like this,” after he had made a substitution.

Asked at the end of the game why Portugal had lost the Last 16 game, Cristiano was scathing in his answer.

“Ask Quiroz,” he replied.
