Alireza Jahanbakhsh

TEHRANTIMES - Iranian international Alireza Jahanbakhsh stated that he prefers to stay at the Netherlands despite offers from England, Scotland and Belgium.

“I like Dutch football and I prefer to stay at the Netherlands. There had been some talks with AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven but nothing has been decided yet,” Jahanbakhsh told Tasnim news agency.

The NEC Nijmegen winger has just rejected a move to Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion due to personal reasons.

“I went to England to talk with Brighton officials. They had very good facilities aiming to win a promotion to the Premier League. They wanted a very quick decision from me to be made but I couldn’t. I believe I need to improve and develop further and the style of play in the Championship would not help,” Jahanbakhsh added.

The 21-year-old was the subject of a bid from Brighton & Hove Albion, while Celtic has also been linked with the player.

Jahanbakhsh scored 12 goals in 28 appearances for NEC in the Dutch Eerste Divisie last season, helping the club secure promotion to the Eredivisie.
