Tehran Times - Sepahan football team earned a late victory over Esteghlal in Iran Professional League (IPL) on Friday.

In the match held in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in front of about 40,000 spectators, Kiros Stanlley was on target in the 81st minute.

Soon after Esteghlal put the visiting team under pressure and hit the bar in the stoppage time.

Sepahan remained in the second place in IPL table, one point behind Padideh.

“Esteghlal were the better team but we controlled the match in the second half and won the game,” Sepahan coach Amir Ghalenoei said in the post-match news conference.

Elsewhere, Tractor Sazi defeated Sepidrood Rasht 2-1 in the injury time thanks to goals from Masoud Shojaei and Lee Erwin in Tabriz.

Pars Jonoubi drew 2-2 with Sanat Naft in Abadan.

Foolad played out a goalless draw against Esteghlal Khuzestan.

On Thursday, IPL leaders Padideh edged past Naft Masjed Soleyman.

Nassaji Mazandaran and Machine Sazi shared the spoils and Zob Ahan came from behind to draw 1-1 with Paykan.

On Saturday, Saipa will host Persepolis in Tehran’s Takhti Stadium.

Padideh sit top of the table with 23 points, followed Sepahan.

Persepolis are third with 16 points with two matches in hands.
