Gabriel Calderón

PLDC – Iranian football club Persepolis has reportedly reached an agreement with Argentinian coach Gabriel Calderón.

The 59-year-old trainer has negotiated with Persepolis’s officials in Istanbul, Turkey in the previous days.

Calderón started his coaching career in French club Caen and has also led Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain football teams.

He has also coached Saudi Arabian giants Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal and Emirati clubs Baniyas and Al-Wasl.

Calderón is going to replace Branko Ivankovic, who left the team to join Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia.

Ivankovic led Persepolis to win the Iran Professional League title three times. Under tutelage of the Croat, Persepolis also won one Hazfi Cup and three Super Cups.

Greek coach Takis Lemonis, Croatian coaches Ante Cacic and Krunoslav "Kruno" Jurcic, Italian managers Massimo Carrera, Walter Zenga and Cesare Prandelli as well as Iranian-German coach Alexander Nouri are the other candidates to take the helm at Persepolis.
