IRNA - Vfl Bochum's Iranian international striker Vahid Hashemian is nominated for this Sunday's starting game formationagainst Bayern Munich, the bi-weekly weekly kicker sports magazine reported Monday.
The 26-year-old Hashemian is to replace top-rated Danish striker Thomas Christiansen who is likely to miss the game due to a nagging knee injury.
"He (Hashemian) has really deserved a nomination for the starting formation," Vfl Bochum Peter Neururer said.
"Vahid has made a great impression in training," he added. A substitute, Hashemian is widely regarded as Bochum's top "joker", having scored 3 goals in nine Bundesliga matches.
That notwithstanding the ex-Pas player had also been criticized by his team-mates and coach Neururer for his selfish game, exemplified by senseless dribblings and overlooking the better posted team-mate in
front of the opponent's goal.
Newly-promoted Bochum has so far surprised football experts this season, ranking 8th in the Bundesliga standings with 14 points out nine matches.
