PFDC - TEHRAN, The appointment of a new Iranian national team coach has been further postponed, but Frenchman Philippe Troussier was named as candidate by IFF boss Ali Kafashian.

Kafashian told the press that beside the three domestic candidates, the Federation is now also evaluating foreign options as possible successors to Ali Daei, who had been released a day after the defeat to Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

Apart from Mohammad Mayeli Kohan, who already had prematurely been announced as new national team coach by a small Iranian news agency on Monday, the second odds-on favourite Afshin Ghotbi and Moghavemat Sepassi and newly appointed U23 coach Gholam Hossein Peyrovani, former Japan boss Troussier was named as foreign candidate by Ali Kafashian.

The IFF president, who also insisted there would be no influence on the Federation by Mohammad Aliabadi's mighty Sports Ministry, didn't rule out the possibility that an up to now unnamed, domestic or foreign, candidate might get the nod in the end.

Kafashian's deputy, Mehdi Taj, meanwhile annouced the new coach will be presented within the next 48 hours.

Iran, lead by interim coach Erich Rutemoeller, will face Senegal in a friendly match on Wednesday.

Team Melli's three final and decisive World Cup qualifiers will take place between June 6 and June 17.
