AFC - Umm Salal coach Gerard Gili is in optimistic mood as his side look to claim their second win in Group C of the AFC Champions League when they host Iran’s Esteghlal at Qatar Sports Club on Tuesday.

The Emir’s Cup champions are second place in the standings behind group leaders Al Ittihad and will be hoping to keep up the pressure on the Saudi outfit by winning against Esteghlal.

Gili welcomes back defender Fabio Cesar who received the green light to take part in the game after recovering from a torn muscle while Jawad Ahannach and Dahi Al Noubi have also recovered from injury.

“I’m optimistic as we have prepared well for the game,” said the 56-year-old coach. “We had a friendly game and it was good for us to check the preparations of the team before the game on Tuesday.

“Some of our players returned to the team from injuries and they will be a big boost for us before the important match against Esteghlal.

“It will not be easy against the Iranian team and we will try our best to fight in order to get the three points.”

Esteghlal, who arrived in Doha on Saturday, will be looking to get their first win in the group after losing their opening match against Al Ittihad before they were held to a draw by Al Jazira two weeks ago.

Esteghlal coach Amir Ghalenoeei is hoping that his side can carry their good domestic form into the AFC Champions League after a 3-0 win over Malvan on Friday saw them move top of the Iranian Pro League.

“We are two points behind Umm Salal and we will go into the game looking to get three important points,” said Ghalenoeei.

“The next two matches are important and if we manage to get six points then we will have a good chance of qualifying from the group.

“We will use an attacking formation in order to get the three points. We have two games at home and winning these matches will surely give us a chance to be in the next round.”
