AFC - Al Jazira coach Abel Braga will field a number of his less experienced players against Iranians Esteghlal in their Group C clash on Tuesday with both sides unable to reach the last 16.

Both sides have failed to pick up a single victory in their four games in the group stage so far and have nothing but pride to play for.

As a result Braga has decided to rest key players with his side involved in a crucial clash with Ajman in their final game of their domestic league on Sunday.

“We will try to win this game and go out on a high note,” said the Brazilian.

“This is a good chance for those players who didn’t get an opportunity to play at this level. There are several of them and it will be special for them because it is an international game.”

Saudi champions Al Ittihad and Umm Salal of Qatar have claimed the top two spots in the group to earn their paces in the last 16.

Al Jazira have four points with four draws and are third, a point ahead of Iranian league champions Esteghlal.

“We drew some of the games that we didn’t really deserve to,” added Braga.

“I thought we were unlucky on more than one occasion.

“This game is not just about completing the formalities but to save our reputation. So we will do everything to win this game.”

Esteghlal will be without several key players because of injuries, suspensions and national team duty and coach Amir Ghalenoei has called on his players to play for their pride.

“We must restore our pride,” he said.

“I have been following Al Jazira’s matches and I must say they are a good all-round team, but were unlucky as we have been in the ACL. I think some of the results we both have had doesn’t relate the true stories.

“The Iranian league is very tough and it has taken its toll on the players. We have several injuries and some have been drafted into the national team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

“We still have a good line-up and I can promise we can play some good and entertaining football.”
