DPA - Spanish football  champions Barcelona plan to open football schools in Islamic Iran, the ISNA news agency reported on Monday.

A representative from the Catalan club met on Monday in Tehran with the head of the Esteqlal Tehran team and discussed the opening of football schools and an academy for youth teams in Iran, ISNA said.

Esteqlal, who finished third this year in the Iranian Premier League and are preparing for the new season, also discussed having a training camp in Spain, preferably in Barcelona.

After failing to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Iran plans to restructure its football, paying more attention to the youth sector with the aim to have a new team for next year's Asian championship in Qatar.
