The Tehran-based football team defeated Naft 6-2 at the Azadi Stadium. Levon Pachajyan put the visiting team a lead just seven minutes into the match but Mehdi Seyed Salehi canceled out their goal in the 20th minute. Mojtaba Jabbari scored Esteghlal second goal in the 28th minute.
Esteghlal defender Hadi Shakkouri scored in the 53rd minute and Farhad Majidi, who came on as a substitute, scored in the 64th minute.
Mehdi Seyed Salehi rubbed salt into Naft’s wounds, putting the ball into the back of the net in the 67th minute.
Rohollah Arab scored a consolation goal for Naft in the 81st minute but Arash Borhani scored Esteghlal’s sixth goal in injury time with an acrobatic performance.
Esteghlal moved up to the IPL standings table second place after Zob Ahan was defeated by Pas 2-1 in an away game.
Esteghlal is three points behind Sepahan who has one game in hand.
