TEHRANTIMES - Iran defeated Tajikistan and qualified for the quarterfinals round of the 2012 Commonwealth of Independent States Cup on Monday.

The Persians juniors beat Tajikistan 5-0 in Group C at the Peterburgsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg.
“My team did well against Tajikistan. That was a good football and the audience loved it. At the group stage we have shown fast and combinative performances, now we want to go through and book a place in final,” Iran coach Akbar Mohammadi said during the post-match news conference.
“Our team is emotional and even during training boys cheer up and support each other. The coaching staff always supports players because they are young and now it's time for their formation as athletes,” he added.
The top two teams from each group, and two wild cards, advance to the quarterfinals. Iran is scheduled to play Latvia on Wednesday in the knockout stage.

*Kazakhstan - Belarus
*Iran - Latvia
*Ukraine - Lithuania
*Russia - Moldova
The 2012 Commonwealth of Independent States Cup is the 20th annual Commonwealth of Independent States Cup since its establishment in 1993.
A total of 12 teams are divided into three groups of four in the tournament which continues till January 29.
