TEHRANTIMES - Iran futsal team will leave Tehran on Monday morning to participate in the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand.

The 7th edition of the Futsal World Cup will take place in Thailand from November 1 to 18.

The 10-time Asian champion was drawn in Group B along with Spain, Morocco and Panama.

Iran drew 3-3 with two-time world champion Spain in the previous edition held in Brazil.

The Asian powerhouse is scheduled to face Spain on November 3 in its opening match in Bangkok’s Hua Mark Indoor Stadium.

"Our goal is to reach the semi-final at the World Cup. We have a good team and I think Iran could even qualify for the final game,” Iran coach Ali Sanei said.

“In the preliminary round we have a difficult job. Spain is one of the most powerful teams and we have also no knowledge of Morocco and Panama teams. That makes it difficult for us,” he added.

Iran has participated four times in the World Cup so far. The Persians made their debut in 1992, where they finished in fourth place.
