MNA - Mehdi Mahdavikia said on Monday that he was greatly encouraged by fans when Eintracht met his former club at the HSH Nordbank Arena.

Hamburg beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 on Saturday in the 17th week to move two points clear of the Bundesliga leaders Hoffenheim.

“Honestly, I have to say they (Hamburg fans) encouraged me even more than when I was playing here. I had the best and most successful time of my career in Hamburg. Sadly, they did not want to keep me after eight good years. But now I am happy in Frankfurt. I am not looking forward to a return at the moment because I have a contract with Eintracht,” said Mahdavikia.

“I played well against Bochum last week and found myself in the starting XI against my former club. We couldn’t take advantage of our first matches since our key players were missing due to injury. Sometimes coach Friedhelm Funkel was not able to complete our 18-man squad,” said Eintracht Iranian midfielder.

“I am not satisfied with my performance in the current season. I missed some matches because of my continuous injury, however I planned to have a good return in the second half of the season,” he added.

The sports media criticized him for the lack of enthusiasm. “I have played here for ten years and have no problem with anybody. When a player cannot accompany his team due to injury then rumors arise. I will prove myself in the upcoming matches and show that I am full of enthusiasm,” Mahdavikia stated.
