FIFA - FIFA opened an official investigation on Saturday 26 March into a stampede that apparently occurred after the FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Iran and Japan on Friday evening, 25 March in Tehran. According to various news reports, five people were said to have been killed and 40 more injured when the spectators were heading for the exits of the Azadi Stadium after the game which Iran had won 2-1. The FIFA administration sent a fax today (Saturday) to the Iran FA requesting further information on the tragic events. |
