Gulf News - Al Wahda extended their chase on leaders Al Ain at the top of the First division football league after winning three valuable points with a 2-1 win over Al Shaab 2-1 in an away encounter at Khalid bin Mohammed stadium in Sharjah yesterday.

Al Wahda have now 41 points, one adrift of Al Ain. Both teams have two matches left and the next eight days will decide the fate of the league title. Abdul Salam Jumaa scored Al Wahda's first goal in the 44th minute while Sheikh Diop levelled for the host two minutes after the break.

Yasir Salim scored the winner for Wahda in the 80th minute from the spot. Al Shaab dropped to fourth place with 31 points.

In the second match held at Al Aweer stadium, Al Nasr defeated Dubai Club 2-1 to snatch the third place and increases their chances of playing in the Super Cup. Abdullah Mussa scored for Dubai Club two minutes from the start and Qazim Ali levelled for Nasr in the last minute of the first session.

Semba netted the winner for Nasr in the 59th minute. Nasr are with 33 points while Dubai club are in the 11th place with 17 points.

In the third match, Sharjah revived their hopes of sailing to safe waters after beating Al Wasl 1-0 at the latter's stadium in Dubai. Brazilian striker Anderson scored the all-important gaol for the visitors in the 75th minute.

Sharjah moved up to seventh with 22 points while Al Wasl stayed at eighth with 21.

In the fourth match, Al Jazira succeeded in scoring a last-gasp equaliser against Al Ahli. Jawad Qazimyan scored for Ahli in the 72nd minute and Hussain Suhail restored parity for Jazira in the 88th minute. Ahli stayed fifth with 30 points and a better goal difference than Jazira, who are sixth with 30.

In the fifth match, Al Shabab returned from the western region with a point after they were held by bottom-placed Al Dhafra to a 1-1 draw. Al Shabab are in the 10th place with 18 points and Al Dhafra in the last place with 15 points.
