IRNA - Iranian international and Hamburger SV player Mehdi Mahdavikia on Tuesday was voted as the best winger in the German football league by the renowned bi-weekly Kicker Sports magazine.
Mahdavikia was the only winger to be selected in the "international class" category, ahead of other international Bundesliga stars like Bayern Munich's Brazilian and English wingers, Ze Roberto and Owen Hargreaves.
The magazine cited Mahdavikia's superb performance this season, enabling his team to qualify for the upcoming European Cup, as the reasons for its top choice.
It went on to praise the right winger's remarkable speed, dribbling skills and his tricky free -and corner kicks.
Several English clubs, among them Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United, had earlier voiced their interest to sign the soft-spoken 25-year-old player following his outstanding play last season.
Mahdavikia, whose current contract with Hamburg will run out in the summer of next year, has already signalled his willingness to remain in Hamburg.
