Jahanbakhsh - Heracles Almelo

Football-Oranje - AZ Alkmaar recorded a convincing 3-0 win at Heracles Almelo to keep their chances of a second-place finish alive.

John van den Brom sat in the stands after the AZ coach was given a touchline ban for criticising referee Kevin Blom last weekend. He saw his AZ side concede an early penalty with Guus Til penalised for pulling down Kristoffer Peterson in the box. Brandley Kuwas stepped up for the hosts but saw his spot-kick well saved by Marco Bizot.

After the early scare, AZ took control and eventually the lead on 25 minutes with Til making up for conceding the penalty by firing his side ahead from Joris Svensson’s cross. Five minutes later it was 2-0 as Wout Weghorst got in behind the Heracles defence before setting up Oussama Idrissi for a tap-in.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh then sealed the win on the hour mark with a fine strike into the top corner.

AZ are now five points behind Ajax, who travel to leaders PSV on Sunday. Heracles are 11th.
