TEHRANTIMES - Sepahan defeated Persepolis in Iran’s Hazfi Cup at Tehran’s packed Azadi Stadium on Sunday.


The game went to penalties after extra-time finished on 2-2, and Sepahan beat Persepolis 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

The two teams finished 1-1 in regular time. Persepolis striker Karim Ansarifard was on target in the 24th minute.

Persepolis defender Hossein Mahini’s blunder allowed Xhevahir Sukaj equalized the match in the 59th minute.

Mohammad Noori put Persepolis ahead in the 99th minute but Mohammad Gholami scored for Sepahan in the 106th minute.

Sepahan won Iran’s Hazfi Cup for the fourth time through its triumph over Persepolis in the penalty shootout.

“We were under pressure in this match, but I am happy because we deserved a title in Iranian football after we lost the IPL title to Esteghlal,” Sepahan coach Zlatko Kranjcar said in the post-match press conference.

In a surprise move, Sepahan General Manger Alireza Rahimi resigned after the match.
