Michael Laudrup

TEHRANTIMES - Lekhwia coach Michael Laudrup, whose team will take on Persepolis in the first game of the Asian Champions League group stage on Tuesday in Tehran Azadi stadium, believes his men will not have an easy match against the Iranian side despite the Reds are struggling in the domestic league.

“All of the Iranian fans want Persepolis to win this match but with respect to all of them we are here to take the three points. Persepolis didn’t get good results in current season’s Iran Professional League but I believe they have the chance to make things up in the Asian Champions League,” former Swansea coach told in a pre-match press conference.

“I’ve followed up Iran national team performance in the Asian Cup so I’m almost familiar with Iranian football style. We have a well-organized team which can play a world class football but we won’t have an easy match against them,” Laudrup added.

“Team’s mental condition is a major factor in football. In the following week we will face Qatar league leader in the QSL (Qatar Star League) and Al Nassr from Saudi Arabia in the ACL Champions League so we have decisive time in front of us,” he added.

“I have worked in Spain and England but as I played in different countries during my playing time I wanted to experience different atmosphere as a manager,” Laudrup told when a reporters ask why he chose to coach a Qatari team.
