MNA - Maziar Zare’s late penalty gave Persepois a 1-1 draw against leaders of the Iran Professional League (IPL) here on Friday.

Esteghlal was held to a 1-1 draw in front of 100,000 spectators at the Azadi Stadium.

Both football teams showed a spiritless performance in the first half. But they changed their way of playing after the interval.

Esteghlal went ahead when Mojtaba Jabbari struck a long range shot in the 67th minute which Persepolis goalie Alireza Haghighi failed to catch.

Persepolis newly-appointed coach Nelo Vingada made some crucial changes after conceding the goal. Young Hadi Noruzi, who replaced veteran Karim Bagheri, showed a better performance in the second half. Also, the Portuguese substituted defender Rahman Rezaei with Hamid Ali Askar.

Persepolis put Esteghlal under pressure and eventually equalized the match.

Ali Alizadeh’s handball in Esteghlal’s penalty box in the extra time, gave an exceptional chance to Persepolis to level the Tehran derby.

Cool Maziar Zare equalized the match from the penalty spot, kicking the ball to the left of Vahid Taleblu.
