PTV - Manager of the Italian team Marcello Lippi points out that the Iranian national soccer squad is one of the most powerful line-ups in Asia.

"I hope Iran's soccer team can qualify for the 2010 World Cup," Lippi said on Wednesday.

The Italian coach further expressed hope that he could visit Iran in the near future.

Iran competes against Saudi Arabia, North Korea, the UAE and South Korea in Group B of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

Ali Daei's players have taken part in a number of friendly matches to prepare for a better performance in the World Cup qualifiers.

The team will play its next match on March 28th against Saudi Arabia at Tehran's Azadi Stadium.

South Korea currently tops the group, with eight points, while North Korea places second with seven points. Iran is in the third spot with six points, two points clear of Saudi Arabia. The UAE is at the bottom with just one point.

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals. Third-place teams will compete in a two-leg play-off, with the winner taking on the Oceania zone victor, New Zealand, for a place in the World Cup.
