Berlin, Oct 21, IRNA -- Hamburger SV's Iranian international striker Mehdi Mahdavikia said Monday that his back injury, which he suffered during his team's 1-0 weekend win against Borussia Moenchengladbach, was not serious.
"The hospital MRI tests revealed only back muscle spasms and fortunately were not linked to my earlier disc problems," Mahdavikia told IRNA via phone from his hospital bed.
The former Pirouzi player was rushed to a Hamburg hospital late Saturday night after complaining of severe back problems.
Mahdavikia attributed the back problems to Saturday's "tough match" where he was one of the best players on his team.
He hoped to be released from hospital within the "next one or two days" and be back at the training sessions by the end of the week.
The 24-year-old forward said although he was still in pain, it had lessened.
Mahdavikia only recently joined his team off the injury list, after he was sidelined for almost seven months following a complicated disc surgery.
