PLDC - The PEO has announced that the renovation work of Azadi stadium will end within two months. The stadium with capacity to seat 100,000 has been under reconstruction and the grass fields have been recarpeted since the end of the 2001-2002 football season (approximately 3 months). The main problems at the sports complex slowing down the work, has been, ruined foundation of pitches, bad grass and water logging in winter.

The reason for the delay in the work has been the layer of salt discovered at the depth of 60 cm. which has been the main cause of the pitches becoming waterlogged during winter and destruction of the grass.

The foundation of the stadium was made 31 years ago and consisted of wood and cement which created part of the present problem. The pitch layers have now been re-laid by Dutch contractors.

Other work planned are insulation, basic rebuilding and installation of new seats within the stadium.
