Hockey World Cup 2022 to be held in August

The 2022 Youth World Cup, which was postponed in January because of COVID-19, will be held this summer. The Under-20 tournament began on December 26 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Canada, but was halted after four days of play in which the US and Czech Republic teams were deemed defeats after testing positive for COVID-19.

Playing for the U.S. national team were:

  • Defenseman Luke Hughes (#4, New Jersey Devils).

Group B will feature teams from the USA, Sweden, Slovakia and Switzerland in the preliminary round. Teams from Canada, Finland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria will meet in Group A. The IIHF will also revise the elimination round format.
