MNA - Bulgaria’s football legend Hristo Stoichkov was named as Mashhad-based Abu Moslem coach, the club said on Tuesday.

Stoichkov will travel to Mashhad next week to finalize his contract, Abu Moslem general manager said.

“We negotiated with him in the United Arab Emirates. Stoichkov will lead Abu Moslem in the next season of the Iran Professional League (IPL). We will sign a two-year contract with him and a Bulgarian assistant will help him with the team,” Hossein Ghasemi added.

French Jean Tigana was one of the team’s choices as well.

Stoichkov was a member of the Bulgaria national team that finished fourth at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. The 43-year old player was honored as European Footballer of the Year in 1994. He was named by Pelé as one of the 125 Greatest Living Footballers at a FIFA Awards Ceremony in 2004.

The former Barcelona striker took charge of Bulgaria from 2004 to 2007. Stoichkov has led Spain’s Celta de Vigo as well.
