AFC supremo set to visit Iran

MNA - Head of the Asian Football Confederation Mohamed bin Hammam will pay a visit to Iran, said the UAE’s daily Al-Khaleej Saturday.

The AFC head plans to leave Iran for Oman, added the daily.

Hammam aims to settle a row between the two countries, which was caused by misjudgment of the Bahraini referee Abdul Rahman Al Delawar in a 13th Asian Cup Group D match in Chongqing, southwestern China, on July 24.

The Asian Football Confederation suspended three Iranian players and sent Al Delawar packing.

Defenders Rahman Rezaei and Ali Badavi faced two-match ban and 5,000-dollar fine for bust-up while their teammate Mohammad Nosrati who leveled the match in the injury time against Oman was punished with a four-match suspension and 7,000-dollar fine due to trampling the Omani striker Imad Ali in an off-the-ball incident.

Delawar was knocked out of the tournament for letting Nosrati keep playing after the brutal stamp and salvage a 2-2 draw three minutes into the stoppage time.
