MNA - Esteghlal made a huge statement of its intentions to lead the Iran Professional League (IPL) as the Tehran-based football team defeated Bargh of Shiraz on Saturday.

The IPL leader demolished Bargh 4-1 in the 22nd week in Shiraz’s Hafezieh Stadium.

Hossein Kazemi gave the visitors a lead in the 28th minute. Hashem Beikzadeh sent a cross into Bargh’s box and Kazemi shot powerfully past Martin Raul.

The referee Mohsen Ghahremani raised Bargh’s hopes some seconds remaining to the half-time as he showed the penalty spot. Captain Sattar Zare easily converted the penalty kick to equalize the match in the first half.

The Brazilian John Vario put Esteghlal in the lead again, scoring a well-aimed shot from a free-kick two minutes into the second half.

Esteghlal was the dominant team as the team poured cold water on Bargh’s hopes when Kazemi got himself on the score sheet once again in the 57th minute. He seemingly escaped the offside trap to finish past Bargh’s goalie.

Esteghlal celebrated for the fourth time when Siavash Akbarpour scored in the 56th minute. Having received a short pass from Ali Alizadeh outside of Bargh’s box, Akbarpour fired a shot which Raul failed to save.

Bargh put Esteghlal under pressure but the team’s strikers squandered all their opportunities.

Esteghlal leads IPL with 43 points, followed by Zob Ahan with 41 points.
