TEHRANTIMES - Esteghlal announced that it has reached an agreement to sign Brazilian midfielder Fabio Januario on Wednesday.

Januario is expected to ink a one-year contract with Esteghlal after the Iranian giant returns from training in Turkey.

“I am glad because I’ve returned to my former team. I have a good relationship with all Esteghlal players. Also, I’ve worked under guidance of coach Amir Ghalenoei at Esteghlal and Sepahan,” the 33-year-old player said.

Januario joined Esteghlal in 2009 from Foolad of Khuzestan. The same year Esteghlal claimed the title of the Iran Professional League (IPL).

The Brazilian has also won two IPL titles along with Sepahan in the last two seasons.

Januario left Sepahan after he had problems with Sepahan coach Zlatko Kranjcar.

Reportedly, the Croatian coach warned Sepahan officials of not renew the contract of the player.

Januario was key to Sepahan defending its IPL title last season.
