Carlos Queiroz

PLDC – Carlos Queiroz says that to reach an agreement with Iran Football Federation is impossible in the current situation.

Queiroz had been offered a contract extension in March to remain as head coach of Team Melli beyond the World Cup finals in Russia.

Queiroz, who qualified the country for the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and will lead the nation again in Russia this year, has been offered an extension until the end of the Asian Cup finals, but he says it’s impossible to extend the contract in the current situation.

“Yes, I’ve been offered an extension,” Queiroz told reporters on Saturday in the national team’s training.

“But at the current situation I don’t think we can reach an agreement. This is an issue between coach and the President (Mehdi Taj),” he added.

The former Real Madrid and Portugal head coach, who also served as an assistant to Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, took the helm of the Iran team in April 2011.
