PLDC – Iran football coach Carlos Queiroz says that he wants to win the 2019 AFC Asian Cup amid criticism over Team Melli.
The Iranian reporters boycotted Queiroz’s press conference on Sunday after he didn’t participate in news conference after the Trinidad and Tobago match while he interviewed with a journalist from Trinidad in Iran’s dressing room.
“As a commander, I react to anything which can harm my players. If somebody disrespects my assistant I won’t compromise on the issue,” Queiroz was quoted as saying by isport.
“Before the start of the 2018 World Cup, so many people expected a big defeat and now the same people say we can win the 2019 AFC Asian Cup,” Queiroz added.
Queiroz’s assistant Oceano da Cruz attacked an Iranian journalist on Thursday after the Trinidad and Tobago match.
“Lopes and Oceano are not target, I have become the target of the critics. They want to stop me and that’s question I should quit because of four people or stay and win the title to make Iranian people happy.
“I promise you I will quit Team Melli at the moment if a person comes to me in the street and tell my ‘leave Team Melli’. But I will not step down for those four persons,” the Portuguese concluded.
