Carlos Queiroz 100 wins

Tehran Times - Iran national football team head coach Carlos Queiroz celebrated his success as a coach who has surpassed a hundred wins in the international matches.

Queiroz has reached the milestone in the accumulated of the four main selections that he has represented throughout his career: Portugal, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa and Iran.

The 100th win was achieved in the match against Bolivia (2-1 in Tehran) on Oct. 16. The Portuguese coach reached the 101st victory against Trinidad and Tobago, also in Tehran on Nov. 15.

“In football, win is the best medicine. We defeated South Korea in Ulsan in the 2014 World Cup qualification which was the best victory because it was a turning point for us. We also remember the 11 defeats we suffered with Team Melli,” Queiroz said in the news conference held on Monday.

Iran are preparing for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup where Team Melli have been drawn with Iraq, Yemen and Vietnam in Group D.

Iran’s bid to win the AFC Asian Cup for the first time since 1976 will be led by Queiroz, who has been in charge of Team Melli since 2011 and having led them to two FIFA World Cups.

“I have yet to forget our defeat against Iran in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup in penalty shootout. We want to book a place in the competition’s final match,” the Portuguese added.

“I have already qualified for the World Cup four times and I have a dream of being at the prestigious event for the fifth time. I will try to make my dream come true,” Queiroz concluded.
