PLDC – South African midfielder Ayanda Patosi is not eligible to play for Iranian football club Esteghlal in Iran Professional League.
Patosi joined Esteghlal in the January transfer window from Cape Town City with the aim of strengthening Esteghlal’s midfield line but he cannot play for the Blues in Iran league.
According to Iran football federation’s rules, he is not eligible to play in Iran league since he has not played for South Africa national football team over the past two years. Also, he just played nine matches for his domestic club so he is not allowed to play for Esteghlal in the domestic league.
However, the 26-year-old winger can accompany Esteghlal in the 2019 AFC Champions League.
It could be disastrous for Esteghlal since the team has a difficult task to win the Iran league this season and the midfielder could help the team to stay on course.
