Persepolis fans

Tasnim – The fans of Iran’s Persepolis football team were voted the third best in the world by MARCA readers.

With over 1,700,000 votes, Uruguayan side Penarol's supporters have been voted as the best in the world.

Brazilian side Palmeiras' fans came in second place in the poll, but, in truth, they were some way behind with just over 1,000,000 votes.

Iranian club Persepolis completed the podium with almost 400,000 votes.

Over 4,000,000 votes were counted in total, though Penerol managed to win by an impressive margin of close to 700,000 votes. The Uruguayan club's fans are famous the world over for the atmosphere they generate at their home games and they do not stop for the entirety of the 90 minutes.

They also hold the honor of having made what is considered to be the biggest flag created, when in 2011 they marked their 120th anniversary with a 309-metre-long flag that was 50 feet high.

The design of the flag showed the five Copa Libertadores crowns the club possess and their three Intercontinental Cups.
