Islamabad, June 9, IRNA -- Provincial teams of Iran and Pakistan will participate in a 10-day football tournament in August this year. Agha Liaquat, secretary-general of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), told IRNA here that teams from four provinces each from Iran and Pakistan will figure in the tournament in Balochistan's capital Quetta. "Pakistan is keen to learn from the experiences of Iranian football and the upcoming tournament is part of this objective," Afgha Liaquat maintained. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in October last year, but due to the terrorist attacks in the United States it was postponed, he explained. Pakistan has not so far made any significant progress in the field of football and ranks a poor 179 in world football. In Asia its ranking is 34. However, in sharp contrast to its extremely weak position in football, Pakistan is among the top teams in cricket, hockey and squash and has won a number of major tournaments in these sports over the years. |
