Persepolis beats Damash

MNA - Persepolis football team defeated struggling Damash of Gilan 2-1 on Wednesday in the 25th week of the Iran Professional League (IPL).

In front of 15,000 spectators at the Sardar-e Jangal Stadium, the visitors were boosted by an inspiring victory ahead of Tehran’s derby, scheduled for February 13.

Ebrahim Tore escaped an offside trap eight minutes into the match and sent the ball over the Damash keeper Nazarmohammadi’s hands into the net.

Adriano Alvez cancelled out Persepolis’ early lead in the 34th minute. Persepolis defender Sepehr Heidari awkwardly cleared a long ball into the box and unmarked Brazilian striker shot past Alireza Haghighi.

Captain Karim Bagheri gave Persepolis the lead again in the 61st minute. The Damash defenders failed to clear the ball and Bagheri took advantage of the loose ball on the edge of Damash box and opened the goal with a powerful shot.

Persepolis remains third in the IPL table with 43 points.
