MNA - Iran’s national football team has been invited to Germany to hold a training camp there and play a friendly against Schalke, the German club chairman said.

“We want to expand our relations with Iran’s football federation. We are ready to play a warm-up game against Iran in our camp,” Clemens Toennies said.

The date of the friendly has yet to be confirmed.

Schalke chairman met Iranian football officials in the training camp located in Tehran’s Azadi stadium on Monday. Schalke lies in seventh place of the German Bundesliga.

“I didn’t think Iran has a well-equipped camp such as this. I hope to have bilateral relations with the Iranians afterward,” he added.

Iran is going to play a friendly against Thailand at the Azadi Stadium on May 26. The team is getting prepared to play North Korea in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. Iran will also play the United Arab Emirates and South Korea on June 10th and 17th respectively.

Iran is fourth in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers in Group Two with six points. South Korea tops the pool with 11 points from five games, followed by its northern neighbor with 10 points from six games, with Saudi Arabia in third, also with 10 points from six games.
